Public Transportation
SOTA is accessible via the Muni Metro, lines K, L, and M at the Forest Hill Station, and via several Muni bus lines-36, 37, 44, 48, and 52. There is a map of all mass transit options to this location in the transit info link below (just type in the 555 Portola address).
The 36 which stops at the shopping center across O'Shaughnessy from the school serves the Miraloma Park and Midtown Terrace areas. It connects with Muni Metro at Forest Hill.
The 37 stops on the North side of Portola near the intersection of Diamond Heights Blvd. It serves Twin Peaks, Ashbury Heights and the Haight.
The 44 stops both immediately before and after crossing Portola in both directions. It connects with BART (via the Glen Park Station) slightly less than a mile down O'Shaughnessy from the school. This bus runs from the Bayview and Excelsior neighborhoods all the way through the Richmond.
The 48 stops in front of the school eastbound and directly across from the school westbound on Portola. It runs between the Potrero Hill neighborhood (via 24th St. & 24th St. BART) through Noe Valley up Clipper to Portola, past the school then proceeds down Portola to the West Portal Muni station and then heads through the Sunset via Taraval and Quintara all the way to the beach.
The 52 which stops on both O'Shaughnessy and Woodside serves Glen Park and the Excelsior. It connects with both Forest Hill Muni Station (end of the route) and Glen Park BART.
The closest Bart station for kids coming from the East Bay would be 24th St. where they would transfer to the 48. For Kids coming from the coastside area or Daly City the best BART stop would be Glen Park where they would transfer to the 44.
Any kids coming from the eastern side of the Peninsula could take Caltrain to 4th & King and then the Muni Metro N line to Forest Hill where they would transfer to the 44 (longer but easier) They can also take Caltrain to the 22nd St. station (next to the last stop) and take catch the 48 on 22nd St.
Any kids commuting from Marin could take the Ferry or Golden Gate Transit and transfer to Muni Metro at the Embarcadero Station where they can take any outbound Muni Metro train to Forest Hill and transfer to the 44.
